The Tuskegee Experiment was forty year experiment. pencil leadting in 1932, the Statess Public Health Service (PHS), experimented on close to 400 black males who were infected with lues venerea. The men were mostly tear down class, illiterate, people in Alabama. They were not aware that they even had the indisposition and totally unaware of how severe and rapidly it would take oer and jeopardize their lives. The men were tested until they died or as single doctor said, until we have no further interest in these patients
Most of the 400 men had never been to a doctor, so they were easily manipulated by people with high educations. The experiments were to test how syphilis affected blacks opposed to whites. In the forty years that it took place, vigor was learned that would prevent or cure the disease. Even the sign purpose of the tests was somewhat shady. The issue was brought forth to the media in 1972. A news anchor named Harry Reasoner described the tests as using, human beings as laboratory animals in a persistent and inefficient study of how long it takes syphilis to kill someone.
By 1972, twenty eight of the men had died from syphilis. 100 more died from related symptoms and complications, 40 wives were infected, and 19 children were born with the disease.



The men were given placebos and told they were the cure. The pills were really just pink aspirin. The doctors tried very hard to pass over that no one was given the real remedy. During the forty years, 250 men had to go to war and get treated for this disease on with others, but the PHS exempt them from the test. Even many blacks were involved in the experiments and never said anything.
The experiment was brought to the attention of the Washington Star on July 25, 1972, by Jean Heller. The PHS said that the tests were voluntary and the men were all always excited to see the doctors.
