Abstract
Should Juveniles Be Tried As Adults?
Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time.
This popular refrain reduces a complex reality to simple rhetoric. Its also wrong. While young people must be held accountable for serious crimes, the teenage justice system exists for barely that purpose. Funneling more youth into the large system does no strong and much harm.
Juveniles are not adults, and saying so doesnt sort out it so. Besides, we dont really mean it: When we try them in criminal court, we do not deem them adults for other purposes, such as pick out and drinking. We know theyre still minors they are developmentally slight mature and responsible and more impulsive, erratic and vulnerable to negative peer pressure.
As people, they are still active work in progress. We just do not like the tenacious consequences of that reality that they are by nature less blamable than law breaking adults, even when they do very badness things. So we change the rules of the game. Therefore, juveniles should not be charged as adults because they are developmentally not mature enough and result not properly be rehabilitated.Â

This article was interesting to me and my topic because it shows how children find it difficult to be in prison. It also shows how difficult it is for the to find jobs, student loans, etc. while having an adult record.
