There has been little detail known nearly Cortés defeat of Pánfilo de Narváezs expedition and La Noche Triste, or The Sorrowful Night. This was not possible since Cortés had thwarted Narváez. Cortés told Montezuma that he and his troops would leave the country as soon as they were able to obtain ships. None of these statements state to Montezuma were true. The only thing the Aztecs saw were more and more Spanish arriving. All the Aztecs wanted to do was to free Montezuma.
